Activity Overview
- The West Pennant Hills Biennial Family Camp is being held at Glenrock Scout Activity Centre from the evening of Friday 13th November until 4pm Sunday 15th November. This is an opportunity for Scouting families to get away for an inexpensive weekend at an idyllic, exclusive venue not far from Sydney. The camp is open to all family members and activities will include swimming, canoeing, fishing and bushwalking or just do your own thing and relax on the beach with a book. Each family will assist with preparing one meal and a cleaning duty at the end of the camp.
- Activities:
All activities are optional but will require at least one parent or carer to accompany any youth that participate in the activity. Some planned activities are -
Swimming - Depending on water quality, swimming will be possible in Glenrock lagoon, children must be supervised. Surf swimming from the beach is not permitted for youth. The beach is unpatrolled and has rips. Merewether beach to the North of Glenrock is within walking distance and is a patrolled beach.
Canoeing - A canoeing activity will be conducted on Glenrock Lagoon on Saturday morning. Canoeing is only allowed when a Scout Leader is present. Lifejackets and wet shoes must be worn. Lifejackets are supplied, bring your own wet shoes.
Fishing - A fishing activity is planned on Glenrock Lagoon for Saturday afternoon. Hand lines and bait will be supplied.
Bushwalking - A short 5km bushwalk is planned for Sunday morning. We will carry our morning tea and water in a daypack.
Preparation
- Accomodation is in 6 berth cabins or camping with own tent. Cabins must be reserved before registering and there are a limited number available. Contact the Group Leader (Kevin Pidd) to reserve a cabin. There is unlimited space for tents.
- As Glenrock is a Scout venue, all adults (over 18) staying overnight must have Working With Children Check and register with West Pennant Hills as an Adult Helper. Registering as an adult helper is free and is not a committment (other than to complete the short Child Safety elearning modules). This registration is just a mechanism for Scouts NSW to validate the Working With Children Check.
